Genting Day 1 - Here we go, Genting Genting GENTING!

Finally, the long-awaited day is here! 22nd November 2009 marks the day that we set of to Genting Highlands for our the 21st Century International Arts Festival 2009 competition.

This competition-tour stretches from 22nd Nov 09 to 26th Nov 09. Led by Ms Brenda Ng, it is supported 12 teachers leading 5 performing groups to Genting Highlands to compete in the Dance and Chinese Orchestra (Ensemble) categories. Representing the school are the Chinese Dance, Malay Dance, Indian Dance, Contemporary Dance and Guzheng. There are a total of 67 pupils, which brings the total number of participants to 80 (including teachers).

Pupils started arriving in school even before 6.30am in the morning, which was the stipulated reporting time. Some were blurry-eyed but most of them were pretty excited!

A few teachers ie, Mrs Emily Tan-yong, Ms Ang Hui Nee and Mdm Wong Wei Kei came to lend us a helping hand. Mr Yeo and came and gave his best wishes to us before we set off in 2 coaches.

The bus journey to the Singapore customs was safe. However, when we were crossing the Malaysian customs, we faced a slight delay. Nonetheless, we managed to proceed with the rest of the journey.

We stopped over at Yong Peng at 11.30am to have our lunch of packed fried rice, afterwhich we continued the next 4 hours of bus journey to Genting Highlands.

Riverlites were so excited and full of energy during the bus journey. Genting is not too far away...

Upon arrival at Genting Highlands, we checked in and registered at the Genting Interntional Convention Centre (GICC) and waited to collect important documents and room keys.
Off we went to our rooms to freshen up and to have our dinner.
Here it goes...

After dinner, we attended the Opening Ceremony Concert at 8.00pm. There was a variety of performces put up by the Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan Dance Troup, a Guzheng Ensemble from Liaoning, China and a concert band. The concert ended quite early at around 9.00pm. This was followed by a briefing session for the competition , which was scheduled to take place the next day.... (Go on to Day 2 to check out our competition timing)

All Riverlites went to bed early so as to have a clear mind for the competition the next day.
Excitment and tension was building but we all managed it pretty well!
